Yesterday there was a gas leak in our neighborhood. The fire department
came around and evacuated everyone (well not quite everyone but that's a
different story.). I was home with the 4 bassets and hubby was at the golf
course and then gym with his vehicle - the official BUV of our household.
Last year I realized that if there was ever a real emergency (hurricane
etc.) we could not take the dogs in my car. So I got a new Honda Odyssey
minivan. This shocked my family who never in their wildest dreams thought
of me as a mini-van person. Only Mulligan has been in the van. The
official BUV in our family is the perfect dog car - the Honda Element.
They just don't make them anymore. The dogs love their car!!
So there I was.... get the 4 hounds... get their leashes... get water for
dogs... get water bowl for dogs... grab the laptop and iPad (I have to have
something). I take everyone into the garage and realize that the back
seats are up and I have to open the garage to get the rear hatch open to
put them down. That won't work!!! So plan 2. Get 2 younger bassets in
the rear seat. Get the 2 older ones in the middle seat. Guinness &
Mulligan jump on the pristine leather seats and immediately begin to shed
like crazy. MacKenzie, regal queen that she is, hoists her butt onto the
seat. Gallagher does NOT like change. He bolted back to the kitchen
door. I had to drag him to the car. All the while crying "I can't leave
you baby." Hoist him up and listen to him whine forever until we caught up
with neighbors, their 2 dogs, hubby and headed to the dog park. You would
have thought I made him ride horseback! The rode in their BUV on the way
home.
