[Dailydrool] Bell hound

Miss Poppy was our bell hound. When she went to the bridge, at age 11 from
lymphoma, we didn't hear howling for a very long time. Then one night, in
his sleep, Gallagher began to howl awaking MacKenzie and Guinness who then
joined in. Mulligan never howled with them. When the sound of the others
howling wakes Gallagher up, he howls a little louder and they stop (usually
after a round of applause by the slaves since this happens in the middle of
the night.)
The other day a horse and carriage went by (not a normal thing for us) and
the 4 Bassets went wild barking. Gallagher began to howl and even Mulligan
joined in, her first ever basset sing along. This was also the first
outside public appearance of the howling bassets in the neighborhood since
Poppy passed 2 and a half years ago.
Anyway, my point in all this is that after the loss of a bell hound it may
take a while, but someone else takes on the role. And every time they sing
we are reminded of Miss Poppy.
