[Dailydrool] In my opinion only

There are times when it becomes necessary to either insist on a referral to
a specialist or find one yourself for your dogs. This is my list of times
when that may happen but be sure to talk it over with your Vet first. If
your Vet is unable or unwilling to make referrals just because you want
one, without getting defensive or sulky, then you need a new Veterinarian.

 1. Anything at all is wrong with your dog's eyes

2. When your dog has been sick for several weeks and your Vet cannot seem
to figure out what is going on

3. When you think something is wrong but the Vet cannot find anything and
in spite of this your spidey sense is tingling and you are going crazy
thinking you are missing something important

4. Your Vet says "I'm not sure what this is. I will have to think about it"

5. Despite good treatment and follow-up on the part of you and your Vet the
dog does not improve after a couple of medicine changes

6. Your Vet insists the dog has something and you are absolutely convinced
it is something else

7. When your dog needs tests that your Vet simply does not have access to

8. When your dog is diagnosed with a highly complex disease or injury that
your Vet seems confused about

Some of these are for your own peace of mind and may produce no results
different from what you already have found. Don't ever think that being
blown off is a good way to run a practice: if you are concerned enough
about something to contact your Veterinarian, they should be engaged enough
to pay attention.
