[Dailydrool] skunked

Essence of Time
and Keep the Dog Door Closed at night.
1.A. When we first moved here son was blasted while in a park playing hide
and seek. Nobody sought him...LOL.
1. Many yrs ago, First Belgian Quiller and 1st Basset Warf went out the
side door which opened onto a narrow walkway in front of a shed. Standing
at the shed to my horror was a skunk that nailed both dogs, the door, the
brick side of the house up close and personal.
The Basset, I might add, shoved the Belgian towards the skunk. I mean I saw
him do it, so that the Belgian got the major blast. This was so close that
I had the skunk oil, which is kind of yellow, running down the side of the
house.
Later, when I bleached it, it turned white. It stunk for months whenever it
rained or was damp as did the dogs and my car as I transported them
instantly to the animal hospital where I worked and bathed them repeatedly
with skunk-off which doesn't really work all that well. This was about 1 in
the morning.
2. Basset Mitchell and Belgian Cooper outside one night when ahroos and
hollers sent me scampering for the door and a flashlight--didn't really
need one...sniff sniff sniff.
Head and Shoulders on the dogs, once again the Basset much less than the
Belgian.
3. Basset Zelda and Belgian Cooper outside one night when the smell hit me
first: dogs at the door. Basset almost clean, Belgian clearly blasted.

There is a lesson in this somewhere but other than the obvious failure on
the part of Belgians to learn not to protect the Bassets who are smart
enough to shove the big black dogs right into the path, thus taking the
brunt of  the spray rather than the Bassets, I am not sure what it is.

MomPerson to a legion of skunked dogs but amazingly not yet Doc or Conley.
