help a slipped or herniated disk and waiting the time for it to 'work' 
will pretty much guarantee your dog will never walk again if he goes 
down in the rear."



Maybe I did not express myself clearly. I am not saying that surgery 
should not be done. I am saying that glucosamine and chondroitin can be 
good adjuncts to surgery. If possible, I would also check with local 
folks who have had bassets go down in the back to find the best surgeon. 
I now know where to go if a basset should have this again.



I never meant to imply that glucosamine and chondroitin alone will do 
the job. They won't. But they can help with pain afterwards.
