 Lucy Jordan July 21 2003 - December 21 2016 13 y 5 mos
Lucy Jordan passed away peacefully at home this morning. Just 2 months after her brudder King George. She leaves behind to mourn her loss, her brokenhearted momma and daddy, her two legged brudder's Brandon who was with her when she left for the bridge, and Jeff who fed her delicious Vienna sausages for dinner last night cause she just didn't want anything else, and Brian who was the one who found her in the first place so many years ago. So we could rescue her from being chained in the back yard to the dog house.
She was just a 1 year old pup when they decided she was too much to handle. They hung a sign in the grocery store where Brian worked. Free to good home. There was no question she needed to be ours. Her name was Daisy and she was scared when she joined our family on October 14 2004. We already had a Daisy and I always wanted a Lucy and she took right to the name. She didn't know how to bark so her new brudders and sisters taught her how to bark. She learned well. I will miss her woofs!
Lucy loved to eat. Oh how that girl could eat. And would eat almost anything! She went to many waddle and shuffles and other basset hound rescue events and she loved the sausage toss game. She really liked it when someone who could toss did the tossing. She also enjoyed the dunking for the hot dog game. She would enter the costume contest. She was a pretty good traveler and loved it when we stopped for gas. She would wiggle and jiggle. I think cause she knew she was going to get out and stretch her little legs.
She was terrified of thunderstorms. She seemed to get worst after Riley went to the bridge. I guess maybe she thought since he was so afraid she had to try and take care of him. If there was a storm at night. It would guarantee I would get no sleep cause she would be climbing all over me and panting and shaking. That was with her thunder shirt on and with some calming medicine. Nothing seemed to help her. I would just try and hold her tight. It also meant a river in the kitchen. She never did like her feet getting wet and then as she got older she didn't like the dark. Rain just made it worst. But she was my little red headed girl so I just kept on loving her. But she never went poop in the house. But she could pass some gas!! Oh my.
She was never afraid of grumpy George, she would come up the ramp and he would growl and bark and she would just trudge on. She knew his bark was worst than his bite.
She was my Lucy Goosey Goosey girl. My Goosey. My Red Head. She loved loved loved belly rubs. She loved to lick empty peanut butter jars.
I think George must have missed his sister. Wanted her there with him. Whatever you want George. You are still the boss. I love you both. Please take care of each other and keep an eye on us. Come for a visit it you want. I know you have found Riley. The 3 Amigos are together again!
I love all three of you! I miss you more than is imaginable.

The Osprey, Humboldt State University's student magazine, ran a story this
month about a basset hound. When I saw the cover I immediately grabbed the
magazine to see what it was all about. Turns out to be an article about a
local basset that ended up in a local shelter for adoption. James and I
actually applied to adopt him last month but soon found out that he came
with a bonded rat terrier named Marbles. Anyway it's a great little story
with several good basset hound  photos so I figured I'd share. The story
starts on page 6.

I wanted to let Droolers who participated in this year's card exchange know that for reasons I cannot explain, I printed labels from last year's list (both mailing list and the heroes list) and did not realize this until I had a card returned from a drooler who had moved. After getting with Kacy (thank you Kacy) we were able to figure out who was missed. So, if you were on the 2015 Full List or 2015 Heroes List, you were sent Albee's card addressed as listed last year. Those of you who were not on the list last year, but are on the list this year - your card will be late as I have had to order more. I am sorry for the delay.

Hi everyone! I am feeling much better from my eye injury. I had to go back
to the vet on Monday to have it checked out again. It is healing nicely,
but forming more scar tissue that the vet wanted. So, I have to have drops
put in my eye through Christmas Day.

While we were waiting, this ginormous pit bull came in to wait as well. He
was 90 lbs. The mom felt terrible for him. His eyes looked terrible. His
eye lids were all scabby and gross. He had sores all over his body. But, he
was there because he was having seizures. He obviously didn't feel well and
he was crying. The mom was a little frustrated because the poor boy's mom
said he couldn't produce tears any more. She had been giving medicine to
help his eyes, but then he started having seizures. She called the vet, and
never got a call back. So she just discontinued his eye medicine, but the
seizures kept coming. Our vet is very good. He returns phone calls most of
the time. But, there is more than one receptionist and sometimes things
fall in the cracks. Please remember this happens at most vet clinics. If
you don't get a call back, please give your vet a chance and call back for
answers. The mom does this and they are very apologetic when this happens
and are very quick to get her an answer.

In case we don't write again before the big day, Merry Christmas, Happy
Hannukah and  what ever else you may do for a celebration this time of year!
