Bill, thank you so much for starting this delicate, but very important conversation.Despite having shared my life with a good number of dogs, none of them have ever left in their sleep, or the middle of the night, so what to do had never occurred to me.
Thank you too, to Dale, Wen and others who gave good practical advice. Having studied to be a veterinary assistant, I knew about the freezer and while understanding the practicality, I hated the thought of it. I also remember the bill for our 16-year-old lurcher, Georgie, who had grown up alongside my children and been the best family dog anyone could have asked for. The bill read: "Cremation. Small dog."It was upsetting to feel her full, active, happy life with us, was reduced to three impersonal words.
One thing I know about bassets is they will never do as expected, but I want to be best prepared as I know with "Younger Clara" now almost 12 and Rolph a very achy 11,I need to be.
Sally, with Rolph and Clara, UK
