Unfortunately, we have a lot of experience dealing with skin issues at our
house. I totally agree with Bev. First make sure there is no underlying
thyroid issue. Bugsey can tell you that they end up looking like a Mexican
Hairless and withno hair to protect their skin from anything, everything
irritates their skin.

Then next thing I do is make sure that the food contains at a minimum of at
least 10% fat. I really prefer 12% fat. I also like at least 20% protein.
This keeps the skin hydrated and able to recover from any assaults on the
skins. Then I feed a fish oil suppliment. Obviously this only works if the
dog doesn't have pancreatitis. I personaly use Grizzly Salmon or Grizzly
Pollock Oil. No I am not getting paid to say that. This is a bad time of
year allergy wise, so we have the decomtamination station in effect. That
means they get wiped down with fragrance free, alcohol free baby wipes when
they have been playing outside. If this doesn't clear things up in a month
or two, or things get worse, then look more closely at the food. I would
use a true Limited Ingredent food such as Natural Balance with one protein
and one startch. Try to pick a starch and a protein the dog has probably
not been on and start there. Do not go in for the whole grain free crap. In
the begining lamb was less allergenic than chicken. Then they started
sticking it in every thing. Now the same is true of potatoes and green
peas. Potatoes are no healthier than rice. It is just a matter of which one
your dog is allergic to. IF you get tired of playing this game, you can
always cheat and try blood testing. But in a dog like Ipo, I wonder how
much of it is good skin care and good food to start with. Just my two cents
worth.
