Apologes right off the bat for telling a story that still makes me laugh,
about something that is perhaps not funny.

As many of you, we keep former dog ashes around. My son being a
glassblower, he has made some marvelous urns for us so some of the dogs
(and cats) Are in beautiful glass urns but the majority are in little boxes
set here and there.

One time, I forget why we were doing this, perhaps it was when the roof
blew off, I was sorting through my room and began gathering the ashes
--"here's Quiller and here's Warf and this one is..." you get the idea. And
then, suddenly, I was holding a box and saying "And this is....this
is.....this is.....who is this?"
And we didn't know.
We went through the list again: Warf, Quiller, Walker, Ambulance, Arsenal,
Zelda and... and.. and...???
Maybe one of the kid's dogs? Clyde?

Finally in desperation I opened the box, I guess thinking that I would see
in the ashes a name there writ: but no!
It was, in fact not a dog or cat at all, but a box full of chalk for
chalking the white bibs and feet of Bassets in a Show. I thought that was
so funny: I still do.
Mark your boxes clearly and remember who you put where.
