I always have my pets cremated and then display them in a nice pottery on my dresser or mantel. A few years ago I volunteered with a rescue and I would be the one they would call to take the old sick dogs. I went through quite a few in just a few years time. You never feel like you get enough time with them when they are already a senior when they  come to you. I also keep leashes and collars and tags. Sometimes they will go in with the remains if the vessel is large enough. While I think some people think it morbid to keep the remains I like knowing they are still here with me in some form and can even still talk to them and remind them how much they were loved. The emptiness of the house is always a killer, even if you still have other pets, the one who passed had their own quirky things that you will miss. Another hard part is if you have been caring for a very sick hound, you will notice how much free time you now have. Just makes you miss them more. Hugs to everyone who has sent a hound to the bridge recently.
