Hi June, I have some similar issues with my boys, who are both going on 10
this year. Sometimes they don't eat and other times they do, although they
generally won't turn down the people food you mentioned.

We usually don't take notice until a few days has gone by and we are like,
"okay Cowboy really hasn't been eating as much as usual" or sometimes it is
the opposite and we are saying, "Damn, Cowboy has been eating a lot more
lately". I feel like it happens a few times a year so I often attribute it
to the changes of seasons, etc. I say that because when the weather turned
cooler last fall, Cowboy started demanding a second dinner. So we adjusted
his portions and started giving a bit more at both breakfast and dinner.
Now as of the last week or two, he will barely touch his breakfast and eat
about 3/4 of his dinner. Well after a few days of wasting food, or watching
Rupert eat double, we decided to cut Cowboys portion back. He's also been
on rimadyl lately for some arthritis and joint issues, so maybe that is
contributing as well.

Overall I don't worry too much as long as they will still take treats and
aren't out eating grass or seeming sick. Keep in mind also, this isn't just
a kibble boredom thing as these boys are spoiled and generally get some
oil, hot water and some type of topping (ground beef, shredded cheese,
scrambled egg, etc.) on top of their kibble each meal. When Cowboy "eats
less", he usually still manages to pick out the good stuff, so I know he's
okay.

Good luck with Gus. I hope it's just a weather thing or something similar.
