I just have to see if these people were droolers-This past Saturday the 19th I went to an adoption event for a local rescue that had advertised a basset would be there. While walking through the store I met a lovely couple who had two of their four bassets with them. The hounds were adorable! Of course I went all crazy basset lady on them and had to pet their dogs. We were standing in front of the basset up for adoption and just remarking that the people with the rescue were not super friendly. She was looking at adopting the basset or possibly an adorable beagle who was also there. We asked three different people if they could get the dog out so they could see how it would interact with the two dogs they had with them. There was definitely a stall going on. I remarked to the woman that it was strange that they wouldn't be jumping on the chance to have their rescue basset go home with a family who already knows and loves the breed, has dogs there they can see how healthy happy and well cared for they were. Finally the foster mom comes over and gets the dog out but then walks right by us over to some young girl who was looking at a pitbull. The poor girl had no idea why this woman was shoving a basset at her. I said no this woman here is the one that wants to see the basset and the rescue lady literally freaked out and started screaming something about michigan basset rescue and they were going let the dog be euthanized and not take her. Needless to say the nice woman with the bassets said forget it and walked away. I just was dumbfounded. I tried to talk to the foster mom about why she thought the woman was with the basset rescue, she wasn't and she couldn't say specifically what basset rescue in michigan.
I just couldn't believe that this rescue group couldn't see what a great home this couple would have provided. I had been wanting to volunteer with this rescue group prior to this incident. Now I don't want anything to do with them.
