[Dailydrool] Getting Bassets to MOVE

I have tried l sorts of methods to teach bassets to move... some more
successful than others.  A couple of the more successful ones are carrying a
squirt bottle with me and everytime I have to to forcibly make someone move,
they also get a squirt with a stern MOVE.  Trickery is also a good method
for me ... I sweetly ask "whose here?" and they all head to the kitchen
door.  In the kitchen, when they are being speed bumps, I say "stepping
over" so they don't stand up while I am straddling them.  But my most
reliable command is "excuse me" ... maybe they just like to be asked.
About 12 years ago I had an injury that resulted in me being "non-weight
bearing" for an entire summer.  One of my grandkids put a bicycle horn on my
walker ... that really worked ... scared the bejeebers out of some of the
bassets ... until they ate it.
