Each year I ask that subscribers consider giving a donation to a rescue 
(instead of a silly or unwanted gift) to friends and/or family members, 
either as one of their gifts or instead of a gift -- esp to those who 
"already have everything types" or just as a stocking-stuffer.

My extended family has done this for years as we're mostly all getting a 
little long in the tooth and do not need another sweater or place-mat. 
Although I always ASK for a car, what I get is a card saying "A donation 
has been made in your name to Such-And-So Basset Rescue."

I am content with that.

But still hoping for a car.
