since we adopted Ipo five months ago, she has had red, itchy skin with raised bumps on one rear leg which she has chewed. HEr initial diagnosis was fleas and flea allergy, which was correct. At that point she had no fur on her hind quarters and both rear legs were red and you could see flea dirt and fleas. We cleared that up and her hair grew in on her rump but not the insides of her rear legs. allergy was the next rule out, so we switched to no grain high quality food and oatmeal shampoos with soothing wipe-downs after excursions outdoors. (With no real improvement). We also used cortisone cream, suspecting contact dermatitis, maybe to grass. I had Ipo scheduled for another evaluation next week, but this week I myself developed raised bump itchy red rash circles on both my inner elbows. Ipo's legs never showed a circular pattern, just redness. Saw the human doctor today as cortisone cream was doing nothing, and as I suspected, I have contracted ringworm (a fungal infection which is contagious, nothing to do with worms). I am 100% sure this is what is also plaguing Ipo, and that I caught it from her (lifting her into the car probably). I am actually very excited. AT last there is a solution! anti-fungal creams (and the more natural treatment of apple cider vinegar). I feel certain that soon both of us will be growing luxurious fur again--uh, well, hopefully only one of us.
