Tim, of course I remember Maggie D'earest. She reminds me so much of our
first basset, not-such-a Lady Jane. She too ate flooring--the linoleum
that had been in our kitchen since I was a child. Though it was nice to
refurbish it, I could have used doing that at a time when I was not
taking care of my very ill dad. But hounds have their own timing, don't
they? I still miss Jane, years later, though she was always an imp and
got into trouble life long, except for a year or so after she ate an
unidentifiable object and had to have it scoped out of her tummy. Of
course Jane was an early member of the OEBE (how could I have forgotten
that name?).

Reggie, did your vet tell you that you had a luxating patella? Our
Dexter has one of those. I started him on glucosamine and chondroitin,
and he stopped having trouble walking and has not had trouble with it
for four years or so. Your mom might want to try this stuff it for you.
She may have to give it to you for a while before it works (they say up
to six weeks), but I have always found it worked almost immediately with
my hounds. Some vets will tell you it won't work, but it is worth trying
even so.I have never had a hound it didn't help, whether it was Abner's
back trouble or the other dogs' arthritis.
