[Dailydrool] A sad anniversary

I posted this on the Daily Drool—the Facebook Addition this evening, along with a couple of photos:

--I'm marking a sad anniversary today. Two years ago I was at the ER with my friend Jennifer, biding a sad farewell to her basset and my friend, Owen. Jennifer adopted Owen in January 2004, and our Elsinore joined my family three months later at a time when Jennifer and I lived across the street from each other. Elsinore and Owen were instantly besotted with each other, a love that deepened over time and in spite of Owen's obvious delight in deliberately annoying Elsinore just to hear her swear at him. Little did Jennifer and I know when she had to let Owen go that Elsinore would be joining him only three months later. It was the end of a good basset era.-- 

I loved having a combined pack of Elsinore, Owen, and Macy with Jennifer. Those were good days, and those hounds gave me some good stories to share. That’s what happens when one’s pack consists of two strong-willed, dominant females and one male who thought stirring them up was funny. I can still see Owen laughing as he stood back and watched the fruits of his labor, two upset girls snarking at him and each other.
