[Dailydrool] early signs of aging

Our Harvey, Bassador,, IS ONLY 7 BUT IS SHOWING  SIGNS OF PREMATURE AGING!
He has interstitial lung disease and diminished tooth roots and decreased
thyroid function. So we are repeating some thyroid tests, T4.

Anyone else have this problem? Or is it only bassadors?  He huffs and puffs
when he overextends his basset 500 rounds.

 

Harvey was intubated and had his mouth and throat checked because he
snatched a fish skeleton which fell in our yard next to the river, probably
dropped by a large heron.  He chewed part of it and swallowed a bunch before
he dropped it.  He was drooling all over the rug and furniture and chewing
his food very carefully and slowly, we KNEW something was wrong!  Our
bedspread was soaked where he was laying!

 

His throat was swollen and his tongue had sores  on it.  The vet did a tooth
cleaning while he was asleep and that was when they did the XRAYS which
showed the signs of aging.  At least no bone fragments were found in his
stomach or esophagus.

 

We will miss the Christmas Card Exchange this year!  Those precious cards!
I just was overloaded and could not sign up this year. Thanksgiving was at
our house and we had 14 this year.  We are just recovering and now it’s a
week before Christmas and I have not even gotten half of our family
Christmas Cards sent.  

 

Tilly is reliving her childhood at 10 ½. She s Counter cruising, snatched
ham and biscuits off plates at Thanksgiving  and unrolling toilet paper on
the run.  Also, running at full speed and winning the Basset 500!

 

Phoebe the mellow Lab ,never asks for anything.  Goes out when the others do
and LISTENS to us when we speak.  She goes to the library and lets the
special needs children read to her.  She probably could read to them!  She’s
so human!

 

But, Bassets will always have a special place in our hearts.  We hope to
always have at least one!
