[Dailydrool] Accidents

Our Madden was 15 last September. For several months now, we'll find poop in the house. Sometimes in her bed, sometimes in the middle of the living room. She's very stealthy about it! We've rarely actually seen her do it! I'm not sure she knows she's doing it and it doesn't seem to bother her one bit that she has. We've been pretty lucky in that they are nice solid poops so they are easy to pick up, but on 2 occasions, something she's had for dinner (usually BBQ) will upset her stomach and that is not an easy cleanup! The DH can't do those! He just gags to no end! I think it's a really good thing that we didn't have 2-leggers!! :)

She also pees in the house. Now THAT we've caught her at!! As soon as we see her up and moving we try to get her to go outside (well, me more that the DH). Sometimes she'll be peeing and I'll yell NO. If it's a good day, she'll be able to stop and make her way out the back door. If it's too late, she'll walk and pee at the same time, so I have a river and not a puddle! My favorite is when she pees as she's walking out the door - it's like Damn, SO close! She rarely lets us know that she has to go out, she'll just pee in the kitchen without barking at all, but occasionally, she'll still bark. I praise her up and down on those days. I've tried bribing her with treats if she goes outside and not in the house, so now she thinks that if she goes out and turns right around to come in, she'll still get one! I think that is hilarious! I attribute this to her age as otherwise she is healthy as a horse!

Our Teddi was 14 last September. She's usually pretty good, but occasionally, she'll try to sneak out the doggy door without letting us know, and the extra effort to get up and through the dog door causes her to poop inside the house!

I can't blame either of them, because of their age, but my house is really starting to smell like ammonia! I spray Natures Miracle on each puddle on the carpet, but it's getting ugly (thinking the DH is not as vigilant)!

I want to shampoo the carpet, but I have no experience doing it. Any suggestions on what to buy or rent?

Being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect. It means you've decided to see beyond the imperfections.
