[Dailydrool] The London trip

I have to admit that I am probably having more fun than the bassets on
their London vacation. Sally has done a great job of finding places
suitable (or not so suitable) to the houndage. Her stories are
wonderful.

But I am wondering what I was thinking, allowing Cleo to go. Indeed, I
apologize to all the hounds and to Sally too for allowing this
way-above-herself hound to inflict herself upon them. Her incident with
the corgi duchess was bad enough. But I see trouble coming. Already I
have received a complaint from Her Royal Lowness about not receiving the
treatment due to the Empress of All She Surveys.

I promise you that since she has been in this house, I have tried to let
her in on the fact that she does not rule the universe, but it has been
an uphill battle. The boys have been no help, since they cave in to her
every whim. They are peaceable souls who remain unwilling to take her
on. However, I cannot blame them; she really is very manipulative (think
of that family member who insists on having her own way, no matter what
you do).

Horton, who had taken on the command of the Good Ship Lollipup has added
to the complaints because he resents being bullied by his sister. He has
politely requested to follow Adm. Sir Belvedere (who later became Lord
Belvedere on the suggestion of another Drooler) and be known as Adm. Sir
Horton. Since I gave Belvedere his entirely frivolous title and never
intended it to be more than that, I have tried to explain to Horton that
if he wanted the title for real, he would have to be knighted by the
queen. I have also explained that Americans are not allowed to have
titles, but he does not seem to be listening to me.

I am therefore giving Clara and Rolph permission to put both these
hounds in their places, if necessary. I am certainly not supporting
Cleo's desire to turn our smallest hound into her personal slave. And we
will deal with the Admiral Sir question when he gets home.

Thank you for your patience, Sally, Clara, and Rolph. I can only say
that if I were there, things would only be more difficult.
Pam, irritated mama to the Dashing Bassets
