My Bassets have an old Bloodhound companion who is 12 yrs+. Amazing, as their life span is usually less than 10.
He too survived bloat. He is now blind, feels his way down the steps and into the yard, spends 90% of his day sleeping. I wish I had his bladder, he only goes and pees about 2 times a day, and he drinks a lot of water.
He demands his meals on time, so he is not ready to call it quits yet. Once in a while the Bassets try to stir him up, and he gives them a mighty roar! Wears him right out!  And then he goes back to sleep.
What a wonderful old guy.
