[Dailydrool] Morse and diarrhea...

Becky, this sounds similar to what my 14.5 yr. old gentlehound, Biggs, has been going through lately. He has a grade 3 heart murmur (maybe advanced more by now, don't know at the moment) but his appetite is still fantastic, and, although he's slowed down considerably and can be a bit unsteady on his pins, he is doing very well. We have been feeding him Merrick kibble with Fromm wet food for a long time. However, in the last few months he has had some bouts of diarrhea, which was very worrying. The first time was with mucous in it and it tested positive for a parasite(s). The vetlady put him on Metronidazole (Flagyl) and it cleared up for a week or so. Then it happened several more times but showing no parasites. He was put back on Metronidazole, but she also recommended Science Diet ID kibble (I am definitely not a fan as it has corn in it, but it actually works for some reason). I, too, use Slippery Elm powder in his food morning/night, with plain yogurt. Sometimes I feed him chicken and rice, just to add variety. He has been diarrhea free for a long while now and his poos are firm. He is incontinent with his pee now, but I don't mind since my home is carpeted in pee pads. Just my experience, but maybe metronidazole and special kibble for digestive issues may help Morse. An ocean of mega drool is flowing across the pond for your darling boy.
