[Dailydrool] Bugsey's Update

Sorry it has taken me so long to get the news out about Bugsey's visit to
Auburn. They suspect masticatory muscle myositis,or a polymyositis, which
is what my vet thought. They sent off blood work to see if he has the
anti-bodies for it. Meanwhile we are weaning him off the prednisone. If the
test comes back positive, we will start treatment for MMM. Otherwise we
will redo the test after his is weaned off the pred. They also think he has
some arthritis in the rear end. Not really surprising in an 8 year old
basset. Apparently he does not have all the classic signs though because
the head of neurology at Auburn had his neurological exam videotaped and
she sent it off to a few other neurologists to see what they had to say. If
we don't get a positive response from the 2M titer on the second go around,
they want to do a muscle/nerve biopsy, electrodiagnostics as well as
testing for toxoplasmosis ans neospora. If it is MMM, they will treat with
cysclosporine, azathioprine, or mycophenolate.

So, we have to have our vet check for the infectious diseases from ticks
and the other two mentioned. Then we go back to Auburn the beginning of
March.

Other than all the gobbitily goop, Bugsey was declared to look amazing for
his age, very cute and he has a great personality. Apparently he cooperated
well and didn't try to bite anyone. He is usually very good for the vet and
the vet techs. They just don't like the way he bosses Browyn the Fairy
Princess around. She doesn't torture him in public, so they don't see that
she deserves everything she gets.

Meanwhile we are in a holding pattern. I appreciate all the prayers and
slobber we can get.
