Basset Hound Rescue of Southern California Hosts 21th Annual Spring 
Games

May 3, 2018 – Irvine, California – Basset Hound Rescue of Southern 
California (BHRSC) will host the 21th Annual Spring Games on May 19th, 
from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm at Mason Regional Park in Irvine, CA.  Spring 
Games (#BRHCSpringGames, #BRHCSpringGames2018) is one of the rescue’s 
largest fundraisers of the year. All proceeds from this event go to 
caring for the homeless Basset Hounds rescued by Basset Hound Rescue of 
Southern California (#BHRSC).

The Annual Spring Games is best described as Basset Hound Olympics. The 
events range from treat toss, synchronized swimming, timed agility 
course, hound tracking, and everyone’s favorite, howling contest. Basset 
Hounds and basset mixes compete in the arena, but all humans and canines 
can be spectators. Humans and canines alike will have a great time 
participating in a BBQ lunch, huge raffle, shopping the Vendor Village 
or creating custom arts and crafts with your dog.

Last year was a record breaking year for BHRSC thanks to help from ABC 
7’s Eyewitness news, Ellen Leyva and Coleen Sullivan.  Two alumni 
hounds, Max and Polly, and BHRSC President, Melissa 
Ruthenbeck-Chiaramonte, visited the ABC 7 team to bring all ears to the 
attention of the organization.
Almost 2,000 hounds have been adopted since the organization was started 
in 1997 by three hound lovers. Today, BHRSC rescues hounds in California 
and other nearby states  who are at risk of euthanasia. These efforts 
can be followed on social media by searching #HoundHaul and 
#BHRSCHoundHaul. BHRSC is also pursuing transportation, walking, and 
foster volunteers.

Spring Games is a great time to adopt a hound! Pre-approved families 
will receive a $100 adoption discount. Applications can be found on the 
website, bassethoundrescue.org.

Preorders for annual t-shirts and custom bandanas closes April 30, 2018 
and pre-registration for Spring Games closes May 12.  On-site 
registration will also be available for $25 for the first hound and $10 
for each additional hound.
