[Dailydrool] Basset mixes

Our first “basset” in 1970 was a mix. Mommy was all basset, and Daddy was all German Shepherd, and those facts spawned many jokes over her lifetime (“Who put her up to it!?!?” “How could he stoop so low!?!?”...). We saw the litter of 9 puppies, and 4 were basset-bodied and short-haired, and the other 5 were more like Daddy, with fluffier hair, longer legs, and pointy ears. We chose a bassety girl, Maggie, who had short legs, a long body, and floppy ears as everyone here has described, more Beagle-length than Basset-long.

Maggie was wonderful, and she travelled the world with us in her 15 years. We got her when Bill was stationed in the Philippines, and she flew to the USA, and lived in California, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York, and visited Canada and Mexico, too!
