Aloha, Below is an email I sent to Sally awhile back, but the subject has just come up again, so I thought it worth reposting. I can send photos of the suit to anyone interested.

> There is a professionally made dog incontinence suit called Tinkle Trousers which has rave reviews. It can be googled on line. I’ve never tried it but it looks good.

> Back when Commander Bo lived with us, I used to make him doggie diaper suits. If you machine sew, they are not difficult to make but need to be custom fit to each dog. I would start out with a zip up the front lightweight sweatshirt. the first measurement needed is from the base of your dog’s neck to the base of his tail. (20 to 30 something inches probably). Take a tape measure with you to a local thrift store, find a zip up the front sweatshirt with a zipper that is the length of this measurement on your dog. Bassets vary widely on this measurement. The second important measurement is around the widest part of your dog’s torso (probably the chest, but could be the belly for a hefty dog)The sweatshirt that you buy has to be at least this many inches wide. Take your tape measure to the store with you. some peole may find a sweatshirt with the correct two measurements in the children’s department, others in the ladies activewear department, others still in the men’s department—it depends on how long and big around your dog is. I seem to recall that Bo took a ladies medium from the ladies activewear department.
>
> Take the sweatshirt home. Cut the sleeves off of it where they join the shoulders. (there should be seams there on most sweatshirts). Put the sleeves aside for the moment for use later.
>
> Now try the shirt on your dog. Lay the shirt unzipped and splayed open on the floor, back down on the floor, inside facing up with the unzipped opening on the top and spread out to the sides. set your dog on top of the shirt putting his two, front legs though the two arm holes, one leg through each hole. (Dog is facing toward the neck). Draw both sides up around the dog and zip along his back. Probably the shirt under his belly will be way saggy just past his rib cage toward the back. Take darts on each side to make it fit. Then remove the shirt from the dog. Now you are ready to make the rear of the suit. Set the shell you have been working on aside for the moment and take out the sleeves you set aside before.
>
> take the two sleeves you have cut off and place them at right angles to each other, one slightly overlapping the other at its midpoint to make a “T”. Shape. Sew the two together at the T junction.
>
> Now you will need more measurements. Measure from one of your dog’s hips around his butt under his tail to the hip on the other side (a band around his rump from hip to hip). cut the top bar of the T part to that length. Now measure from the dog’s butt hole (pardon the language) straight down between his legs to about his belly button. Cut the stem of the T to that length.
>
> now take your shirt shell again. Lay it open on the floor again. Attach the bottom of the T stem to the middle of the hem at the bottom of the sweatshirt back so it is extending out behind the shirt like a long tail with a T bar at the end.
>
> Zip the shirt (with the tail) back up again. Now take the bar on each side and attach it to the hip on the same side. You will have created back leg holes. Try the suit on the dog again and once again take in anyplace that still doesn’t quite fit.
>
> Now you have a washable whole body dog suit which you can put incontinence pads into the bottom of and then zip it up down the dog’s back (tail to neck). i used to put two human incontinence pads side by side in the bottom of Bo’s suit. they did not slide off and worked great. Bo had five or six of these suits. i have given them all away, but could send photos to anyone who wants to see them These really are easy to make once you get the hang of it, don’t bother the dog or impede his motion, or fall off.
