I have had one of my dogs actually say something to me that I understood,
and that was Mitchell.
I have not ever had a dog lead me to anything-- no Timmy in the Well or a
burning building or a crippled baby bunny, but today Merta Lou basically
took me by the hand....

It has been absymally hot and humid, stifling, suffocating, hideous outside
for the past few days. It is crazy hot and then the water just falls
straight down out of the sky and floods and then the sun comes out and the
humidity climbs and we start all over and even the dogs are very reluctant
to go out.
Last night my dogs decided to mutiny, and refused to go out. There were no
accidents, they just held it. This morning they went out at 4 and then
would not go out again. I would get to the door and turn around and they
were gone, back inside.

So finally I took them outside and when I went out Doc was sitting waiting
for Merta Lou who was sitting down but when she saw me she jumped up,
barked a couple of times and stood pointing toward the neighbors house. I
asked what and she bounced up and down a little and wagged her tail so I
started over to her and she started down the sidewalk. I stopped and she
stopped and came back, turned around facing the neighbors, wagged her tail
and looked over her shoulder at me. Ok, I can take a hint, off we went, and
she led me, looking over her shoulder, to the big gate, to a space between
the shed and the gate and almost crawled in there. And I found, in that
space.....
absolutely nothing. Not one thing. Leaves, twigs, junk, a couple of
totes(empty) junk.Nothing living.
When I turned around she was on her way back to the door with Doc and I
swear she said "I win the bet" to him as they went around the corner.....

Now wait just a darn minute...........

MomPerson to MertaLou and Doc, feeling used.
