[Dailydrool] Blast From the Past

I first joined the Drool on 2001! (I was so young!). I nveer post anymore,
but still faithfully read. At the time I joined, I had a different last
name, and we had Pw. Annabelle, who had gone blind from glacuoma at 18
months. Jeanne McBride, another long-time Drooler, found me on a blind
dogs support group and directed me to the Drool. Shortly after, we
fostered and then adopted Hector from BHRG. He was my heart dog, and
became known on the Drool as Hector the Very Loud, or Hector TVL.

In 2003, we got Barney at 6 months old as a show prospect from Soundtrack
Bassets. Barney was a homebody however, and made it clear he'd prefer not
to be shown. He was probably the sweetest-natured dog I've ever had in my
house. A couple of years later, Bozlee joined us from the same kennel
after his first owners returned him at the age of 3.

I fostered with BHRG for years, and met so many Droolers in person at
various Waddles and basset events. I moved to Arkansas in 2006, and helped
run OMBR for a few years. Now I live in TX. All the bassets mentioned
above are at the Bridge now, and I have two new ones, both beauty-school
dropouts from very good kennels.

As for how names are chosen, Pw. Annabelle was Annabelle Lee after the poem
The Raven. Barney and Bozlee came with their names and I liked them.
Hector came to me as an un-named foster, and we tried several names. He
was a wild, under-stimulated heathen of an 18 month old, who had been in a
crate 20 hours a day at his previous home. He was race around the house
then jump on me and BARK in my house, so loud that my computer screen would
shiver (the old CRT computer monitors). Once in exasperation I said
"dammit, stop hectoring me!" And thus his name.

My current two are Joker, age 3.5, a registered Therapy Dog. He came from
Ft. Merrill Bassets. He came with his name, and it fits him. The other is
from Obie's Bassets, and was the breeder's show dog pick, until a back foot
turned out at 6 months old. I named her Harley Quinn, so they are the DC
Comic's characters Joker and Harley Quinn, (who are villians and also a
romantic couple). Harley is 20 months now, and she and I are in beginning
agility classes. She and Joker are great friends, and they have added a
lot of joy and fun to my home.
