And so on it goes.
I spent last night sitting on the bed with a large black dog on my lap
reassuring him that the end of the world had not yet arrived while Merta
Lou watched both in consternation and the hopes that I might find it
necessary to get rid of large amounts of food very quickly.
Then this morning about 5 when the sun was mostly up I toured the back with
a flashlight looking for stray fireworks that may have landed there. I
walked the perimeter while the dogs watched me, all voluntarily. ML lifted
her head then and took a few tentative steps toward the pond but there was
something about her level of excitement even though she was standing still
that forced me to pause and look down in front of me and literally at my
feet, peering up, was a skunk. Da** it!!! (Sorry), Darn it. Very carefully
I backed away at the same time telling the dogs IN THE HOUSE IN THE HOUSE
and by gum even ML turned and headed (reluctantly) for the door. She was
much further away. If anyone was going to get blasted it was me but I just
power walked away to ML where I rather forcefully encouraged her to get her
cute little butt in gear. Nobody got sprayed and alas, I did not see where
Skunkie went.
Shaking with relief, I went and picked up spent M80 shells off the front
lawn where the neighbors had shot them last night. Sure am looking forward
to tonight. Yessir not at all.
