While I love seeing pictures of Basset Hounds on FB, the stories just aren’t as much fun. I joined in 2008. The Daily Drool is like a real book, it has comedy and tragedy all in one place. We laughed and wept from the same email. I still find the original drool to be “cozier” for lack of a better term.

Our Bassets: First. Miss MacKenzie was born in February 2008. She could take down any tall dog by taking them out at the knees - while a puppy. She was a black tri-color. We referred to her as a Bernese mountain Basset (her cousins were Berners). She was the boss and bell hound. Cysco, our ancient Golden Retriever loved her (and Gallagher when he arrived). We lost her suddenly, in 2020. We had no idea she had cancer as her personality never changed.
Second: Gallagher is now 13 1/2. He is a red boy (though mostly gray now) full of lumps and constantly begging for snacks.
Third: Mary Poppins. We rescued her with the help of CBHR in 2009 somewhere between 9 and 10 years old. She was instantly the boss dog and MacKenzie and Gallagher accepted that. She was also quite a bell hound. We lost her to lymphoma in 2012.
Fourth: Guinness, born in August 2011. Poppy took him under her paw, as he required constant discipline. He was beside her when she went to the bridge. Guinness passed in 2021. He had IVDD and surgery only worked for a few weeks. He lived about 2years with it when his kidney started to fail and he went to the bridge. This group was so helpful to us at this time.
Fifth: Miss Mulligan. I picked her up for a temporary hold in 2012 and she is still with us. We think she’s about 11. She has Cushings and Diabetes Insipidus. We didn’t think she was a full Basset Hound, but her DNA tests say she is! She’s a love and the boss of Gallagher. He serves as her bed warmer. He warms the bed and she stares at him until he gives it up to her. Repeat.
