In the hopes of reviving old ways....Daphneyland turns 20 years old this year. Impossible to believe, but true! The last month has been one involving a little old guy named Matthew, affectionately nicknamed Roomba.Roomba came to us during hurricane Matthew, and thus we named him.
Abandoned on the streets of TJ, with a nail driven so far up his leg it had to be surgically removed. After surgery they did an x ray as the vetspital there was going to address eye removal, neuter and dental - yet his rads revealed a nightmare broken neck with a disk twisted and pressure shrinking his trachea! It was decided after many consults that he would come here, and we would work towards a possible solution.  The leg was fixed, his glaucoma explained (blunt force trauma evident), the trick would be anesthesia. One specialist after another poked and prodded, rads, ultrasounds, yet none wanted to be the bad guy.  Keep him happy. For many Droolers over the years; the little blind & deaf gringo named Matthew they met as Roomba.  He bounced off furniture in the grooming room in search of cookie crumbs. The nick name stuck, There will never be enough treats for Roomba.Banding together Ellen Hongo & Dawn of the East started Cookies for Roomba and make sure tons of treats are purchased for him annually. This year was no exception. DOE even flew to Las Vegas, rented a BUV and stalked all the Costco's to get the elusive Kirkland Cookie for the dear Roomba - just as he crashed and we thought it was his bridge time. That was a tough call!!She arrived with 90 boxes of cookies, a dozen special donuts and she & Maddy had claimed a lice of prime rib & a Wagyu hot dog from a high priced Vegas buffet.  It saved his life. He ATE!Taking it day by day, we are enticing him to eat, get his treats, and start walking again.  He is ancient. This week this was his routine:  Laser Therapy, Breakfast of home cooked foods and slivers of Wagyu Beef hot dogs from Snake River Farms.  Filtered spring water.  His double dose of arth 9 followed by Benny's liver treats.  Physical therapy and some sling walking time.  Slivers of Wagyu beef hot dogs.  Nap.  Saturday night he scored the take home box from Red Lobster - in it he found Macaroni & cheese with apple wood bacon crumbles and 1/3 a filet of Salmon from Red Lobster.  His Spina Organics bath of lavender (that he protested) had him napping soundly.  When he protests he barks and sounds exactly like the low battery alert on a smoke detector.  He alerts at 3 a.m. daily so this human has to serve spring water and thinly sliced... you got it; Wagyu beef hot dogs.
He stands, takes a few steps - then alerts for those danged expensive hot dogs. Sometimes it's roasted chicken breast.I am merely his slave.Oh how far he has traveled from that side of the road in TJ.My life has gone to the hounds and I would not have it any other way.Get up and walk Roomba!
