[Dailydrool] To Jessie the sock hound

Dear Jessie:
I am so proud of you, little one. Socks are the best thing in the world that comes from humans. They smell just like the humans, which makes them utterly delightful.

Sock chewing can be a lifelong adventure, as long as you don't swallow too many of them. Swallowing makes the humans really mad. I don't understand quite why, but they keep telling me that something dire will happen if I swallow too many of them. They couldn't seriously think that any would get stuck in me (their usual excuse), since so many have already gone through my system. But to be on the safe side and to humor the slaves who feed me, I usually return the socks after they've been in my tummy for a while. Mom must like that, since she even made up a song about my sock . . . er . . . theft, as she calls it.

I would send you a picture of myself chewing on a sockie that seems to match yours, but the 'puter will not let me put it on the Drool. They say we can't send embedded pictures. So I guess Mom shouldn't have taken the picture when I was on the bed. Sorry. It's the only time she took my picture when I grabbed one of dad's socks.

I'm glad there are younger hounds ready to carry on the basset tradition: a chicken in every pot, a sock in every mouth.
