If you still want to adopt this dog, you might see if some education would help the rescue allow you to take him. I would do an online search on the subject and e-mail the rescue with the most understandable information you come up with.

You might also offer to have your vet talk to them--or suggest that they talk to their own vet on the subject.

If these methods work, you may be able to adopt the hound. If not, this is probably not a rescue you really want to work with anyway--or they may have had someone else they wanted to give the dog to and didn't have the courage to tell you so.
