[Dailydrool] no more foster homes

Last year, my sister started fostering for GABR. Since we share a house, I became a foster aunt. I've enjoyed fostering. I will not lie to you that there has been times in the past year that we had some issues. What's life without a little drama now and then. The truth is that I've enjoyed fostering.. so much that I adopted our last foster Grace.

An extra basset is not much more work. What's an extra bowl of kibble and a few treats. Walking two bassets can be twice as fun as walking one. A foster basset does not need much space - can you spare a blanket to put on the floor in a warm place in your home?

If your dog and the foster doesn't get along, the rescue will help you. If necessary they will arrange for another foster home to take the basset.

Don't let your location deter you from fostering. We live in St. Louis and foster for Guardian Angel Basset Rescue. Transportation can be arranged. There are volunteers that will help get your foster to you.

Your job as a foster home is to provide food, water, shelter, and love. The rescue will handle the screening of potential adopters. It is your responsibility to talk with the potential home about your foster when necessary.

You may shed a tear or two when a foster is adopted, but the look of joy on the face of your foster's forever home is priceless. Remember how happy you were when your basset came into your life?

If you cannot give up your foster, that isn't so bad either. A foster failure is a good thing. As my nephew said recently fostering gives you a chance to see if the dog will fit into your family. If we didn't foster Grace, I probably would have never given a thought of adopting her. I got to know Grace and fell in love with her.

If you can, give fostering a chance. Foster homes are always needed by basset rescues.
