[Dailydrool] Bloat

When My St. Bernard bloated a couple of years ago, my pet sitter ran her to
the vet - lucky she came by when she did, and I recognized what was going on
by her description. We called ahead to the vet. He was out on road calls at
the local farms and dropped everything to rush back and take care of her. He
was there before I was, although I left work immediately. He couldn't pass
the oral gastric tube and had to put a needle through her abdomen to
decompress her initially. Surgery removed much of her stomach, but she
survived for another year and a half and did very well.

I would talk to your vet BEFORE it comes up. Ask what they will do if you
suspect bloat and come in - let them know you expect it to be a "drop
everything" emergency. If they don't seem to think that is the case, look
for another vet.
