Kristy - Owning a dog for the first time, especially a puppy, can be an overwhelming and frustrating experience, especially for someone who has only owned cats before.Even the most loving are still usually fiercely independent creatures. Puppies are adorable, loving and sweet but they are also a HUGE commitment and responsibility. It's much like becoming the parent of a baby for the first time. It doesn't sound hard in theory, but in practice it's a whole different story. Especially for Basset Hound slaves. The qualities which make them wonderful hunters - tenacity, stubbornness, perseverance, etc. can be exasperating during training.? Basset hounds are NOT going to cooperate the first time you try and train them to a positive behavior - heck, maybe not even the tenth.? That being said, however, they are among the most loving, devoted and appreciative creatures in the world.?

I wonder if you did enough research before falling for "the look" which wins often the hearts of those who approach Basset slavedom unaware.? You have only had Chloe for four days!? Yes, you have to be available for her full-time, much like you would a new baby.? She depends on you to feed her, play with her and train her.? If you hang in there, the reward will be amazing.? I don't remember if you mentioned how you acquired Chloe.? However, If you feel you really aren't ready to put in the time and effort raising her involves, I would strongly suggest that you return her - to her breeder if you got her from a breeder - if not, please research Basset Rescue in your area.? If you go to the main Drool web site and click on rescues, you can search by state.?

We've all been where you are at one time or another.? When we first got Daisy Belle I thought she would never be housetrained or stop getting into things and destroying them, despite my best efforts at Basset-proofing our home.? As I write this, she is here with me in the office, looking for a belly rub.? Getting her led us to three more, all rescues.? As wonderful as they are, however, they are not for everyone.?

Hope this helps...
