I've been reading the digest for about a year now when I can. Life gets
a little hectic out here some weeks. I have 2 permanent bassets (Gus
and Curie), a permanent basset wannabe (Tesla) and 2 long term basset
fosters from a previous drool member (Sally and Schroeder). Along with
various other canine fosters and 7 cats at the moment, those are all
mine. I am running a local all breed rescue here mostly by myself out
of my extra room and have been able to place 15 pets so far this year!
This is a very small rural community here but I'm doing what I can to
make a difference.
We got our Curie from the local kill shelter Oct 2007 after my husband
BEGGED for a basset hound. For $20 I got her, unspayed, no shots,
severe kidney infection, pano and with her papers at 7 months old. Thus
began my journey to start a rescue. She had been set to be euthanized
the next day, but I didn't find that out until much later.
This past May we saw a poster on a pet store bulletin about a basset
that had been pulled off the euthanasia list in Kerrville and we made a
phone call. Gus was at our house 3 days later and has fit in like a dream.
In June I read a post on the Drool Board about someone needing help with
placing 2 bassets. Hubby and I discussed it at length and brought in a
blind basset and her buddy in July. Sally and Schroeder.
Tomorrow I will be springing an older basset from another kill shelter
as his time will be up on Friday. I can't stand to see seniors dumped
in shelters.
