[Dailydrool] shock collars

I've just begun fostering a bonded pair of 8 year old bassets. Hannah is the barkingest hound I have ever heard or had! As soon as I come into the house, she has to tell me all about HER day, and ask me about mine...nonstop for about 10 minutes. She would bark continuously until I realized she WAS barking nonstop! so.....I began stopping it immediately by saying "hush Hannah" and "quiet Hannah" and putting my finger to my lips, and rewarding her with "good girl" the moment she shut up! My neighbors who are used to my 4-5 bassets at-a-time, were commenting "this one is a real barker isn't it?"....oh oh the neighbors noticed too!

Her long suffering brudder Oliver is a smooshy basset who obviously has never had an opportunity to get a word in edgewise....curiously I have only heard him bark one time-at a visitor going by the front door.

Curiously (I thought at first), when I would open my french door refrigerator, and keep it open just a little too long and a high-pitched beep emitted- BOTH Hannah and Oliver IMMEDIATELY shot out the doggie door and stationed themselves at the back corner of the property! It was instantaneous every time that beep would start! Several dog owners have told me that a bark collar may have been used on both of these hounds which emitted some high pitched sound ...if that is true, it obviously shut Oliver right up, but Hannah continued on..... I think they just needed lots of attention and that may be how Hannah hoped to get it (seems like little kids do that too don't they to get noticed????....do something they KNOW will bring someone running!)....

Hannah is doing very well now, she starts talking when I come in the door, but stops after I tell her about MY day, and give her pets, as well pets to her brother. Now, when I open the refrig - Hannah walks fast with her ears back toward the doggie door, but I call her back and tell her it's ok, and she comes back - Oliver now doesn't move....

I fully believe some shock collar device was used on these two, and they have long standing emotional responses which have only been allayed by lots of loving attention and correction which they are more than willing to cooperate with..... NO BARK COLLARS!!!!
