Subject: [Dailydrool] Adopting

First of all just like anything else there is good and bad rescues. Thank
doG most of them are ethical and honest organizations. I am a bit confused.
Was your puppy ever in a foster home? If not then it was an owner assisted
adoption. Sometimes when rescues don't have enough foster homes or other
resources they will allow an owner of a dog to list their dog on their site. It
stays with the owner and the rescue directs interested parties to him/her.
Then the responsibility lies with the owner to reveal an accurate description of
his dog. The rescue may or may not have you sign a contract depending on if
they want to take responsibility of the dog incase it doesn't work out with
you. There is usually no fee or a minimal one at best.
At the rescue I am affiliated with (ABC) our fosters are fully evaluated,
vet checked, spayed/neutered and all crucial medical issues are dealt with.
Then we do a thorough home check with the adopters to make sure we place a dog
who will fit in with the family and the environment. All adopters will know
the good, the bad and the ugly of the dog they want to adopt. If we don't
think a dog and adopter are a good match then there will be no adoption. It is
our goal to make sure our dogs never have to end up in rescue again. There is
a fee to adopt a dog to help cover the costs of care given to it.
So without knowing the details it is hard to say what happened with your
adoption. Unfortunately there are people out there who take advantage of us
dog lovers. Around where I live we have a so called all breed rescue who
advertises to take your unwanted dog, does nothing but house the it in a kennel on
their premises and turns around and "adopts" them out with a hefty fee. No
home check required. Good luck with your little guy. I hope you keep us
informed of what the doctor says.
