You have to remember two things:

Bassets have the brain capacity of a two year old.  Period.  No ifs
ands or buts about it.  If you have a basset you have a perpetual two
year old.

Two year olds do not eat babies, even human ones.  Bassets may steal
socks from floors, drawers, laundry baskets but they will not steal a
foot or hand, fingers or toes.

I have two concerns:

You thought of these issues AFTER you adopted.

Are you now considering relenquising the dog?
