We had the puppy experience nearly 3 years ago when we got Freddie - aka
JAWS. He was a chewer a butt biter (mine, of course) and overall little
stinker. My husband would come home and find me in tears with awful bruises on my
rear and legs from the nips. Obviously Freddie was removed from his Mamma way
to early and didn't learn the proper social graces. Now of course, he is an
angel and the "best puppy in the whole world".
We used nyla bones for chewing. They have different flavors. He loved
them. Always supervise chewing. They also have a freezable nyla bone for
teething puppies - it worked well. We used the Behavior NO chewing spray - think
it was one of those Nautral products - available at Petsmart. Worked wonders,
even on our antique trunk - he never went after it again after spray - and
there's no stain from it. I recommend lots of nyla bones and other toys -
crate training for when you're not at home - its safer for your puppy to know
they're safe in a crate and not chewing the electric cords - lots of walkies
and training. Also never leave collars or toys with your baby in the crate.
They can choke or strangle if they get caught.
Now for Miss Chloe's pain. Freddie and Ellie had lumps removed yesterday
and within a couple hours Freddie was in visible pain. I called the vet and
since we had Rimadyl in the house from Ellie's shoulder pain we were advised to
use that for a couple days. It totally worked and took the edge off.
Freddie stopped the ferocious licking and felt a lot better. I'd definitely call
the vet for more pain management for poor Miss Chloe. Sending healing
droolies her way.
Helene, Freddie and Ellie
