[Dailydrool] Thanks Melissa for challenging the hound shipping post

It was a pleasure to read Melissa's well thought out and reseasoned response
to the rescue that proposed to ship a hound to Michigan. I'd contemplated
writing a similar response myself and probably should have. Every few years
some group or another that is supportive of the practice of transporting
hounds both without need or an intact, definate plan to get back hounds that
do not work out rears its head. Some just do it for sport. Some have a plan
and just do not disclose it. I have a distinct recollection of a Drooler
bragging that she had never placed a dog within 150 miles of her home. I'd
personally seen the end product of the group that individual spoke for.
Hounds who were without recourse to the sending group. With no assistance
offered many states from home. Melissa is understandably concerned about the
practice, as should we all be.

The response to Melissas post, was, well...just unpleasant. The in your
face, we will adopt to people who see a hound on our website rather than
refer, don't care if another group turned the person down, don't dare
question our policies and...oh, by the way.... let me take a swipe at your
volunteers was uncalled for. (At least there is some form of plan to get the
hound back.)

It is a small basset world....and the timing of sending a fundraising
solicitation the same day as the poster made such kmb (kiss my basset)
declarations to another rescuer that had posed reasonable questions was
unfortunate. With any luck the poster extends an appropriate apology to
Melissa. My guess is that there will be a deluge of anecdotal success
stories posted. Please don't bother sending them to me directly. My response
will just be to ask that you not write me again. It is the hound that
doesn't work out that causes the problem.

Yes, I know. It is all for the hounds, but sometimes there sure are
differences in dealing with the policies of various groups. Thank you to
Michigan Basset Rescue for having a responsible one as to hound shipping.
