Suzanne,
I see folks are telling you that cut up hot dogs are good treats. Along those same lines, you can buy Vienna Sausages. You should find them in a can in the isle by the tuna fish at the grocery store. My Bingo (who went to the bridge on 3/15/05) loved Vienna Sausages. They were a good way to lure him into a crate or back in the house if he refused to come back inside. They have a somewhat strong smell, if I remember right, so once you open the can your baby should right there waiting for some. They are small versions of hot dogs. I used to take one or two in a plastic bag on my walks with Bingo and break a small piece off with my hand so I would have them when he peeped or pooped outside. Bingo had housetraining issues for a while after we got him. He was anywhere between 8 and 10 when we got him so he was probably never properly trained as a puppy. So it was a long process. Puppies should learn quicker I think.
Good luck. And let us know what you name him. We can't wait to find out.
