If there is a white dot on the bunny's forehead, he's not weaned yet
and should be taken to a wildlife rehab center for hand feeding until
he can be released.  If he's uninjured and has no white dot you should release him close to where you found him as soon as you can.  The
stress of captivity alone is enough to kill some wild bunnies.
(I'm not trying to be a know-it-all -I've done wildlife rehab and domestic rabbit rescue for many years).
Hooray for youir hounds for not killing him!  One of my dogs once brought eight wild baby rabbits into my house when a young mom 
rabbit made her nest in my yard.  My dogs were all raised with all manner of animals in the house, so she knew the babies were supposed to be in the house- not the yard!!
