[Dailydrool] chain link

When we lived in town we had a 4 foot chain link fence around the back
yard and it was completely basset proof.  It would keep in any basset
that could not climb straight up (my sister had one that could
"walk" up the chain link and gt out of a 6' tall run).  In
would not keep in (or out) a larger dog, such as the otterhound we later
got.  If you are concerned about keeping other dogs out or if you
might get a larger dog in the future, you might want to consider the 5
foot.  Attaching wooden dowels and chicken wire at the top of a 3
foot chain  link fence is pretty funny looling (LOL.  That's
actually what we did)

As to the bottom rail - that is an
absolute MUST HAVE.  Bassets dig and can squeeze thorugh the
slightest gap and without hte bottom rail, there will be gaps unless you
bury the bottom 6 inches.  In which case 3 feet might be too
short.
