First off, Paddi and Vernon want everyone to know that they continue to drool on demand (or whenever) for all those who are sick, injured or mourning the passing of anyone, two, three or four-legged. (We have a three-legged cat so V&P are aware that legs are not always attached in even numbers.)

They would also like everyone to know that leather couches are extremely acceptable. We bought leather furniture (couch, love seat, armchair, ottoman) four years ago and it has all been extensively basset tested. I think you'd say it was mid-grade -- we got it from Ikea. It has a slightly pebbly finish, rather than being really smooth. We clean it with a micro-fibre cloth and warm water, and the hounds sleep on it all the time. I cannot imagine having a cloth-covered sofa with a basset, personally -- when we did, Paddi B was still a puppy and she wasn't allowed on furtniture. (I know, I have apologized.)

We've been having lots of fun lately with a visiting beagle friend. This has been a blast for Paddi and Vernon -- he's been over a couple of times and together they do the hound 500 all over the back yard. Funny, they'd met the same dog on the beach (he's a friend's) and not liked him much, but that was when everyone was on leashes. Here he is apparently very welcome. I gotta say, though, I don't know how you folks with more than two dogs survive making dinner. I have now made pizza with three dogs underfoot. My goodness. With two counter-cruiisers and a faster-than-light darter it's a wonder we got anything.

Hope all are getting spring weather (except of course those of you who are in Africa and Australia and similar places -- I hoe you're having pleasant autumn weather, whatever it is for you!)

Drool from Paddi B, and Vernon Q,
and greetings from Mary
