You are both right. Sally may be one of those rare Bassets who loves being
an only dog. On the other hand, mine have always seemed more relaxed and
happy with a "friend".
Contrary to what you think, two dogs is not just a little more work it is
twice as much work, but once you get a routine you will be so used to it you
won't notice. I have 4 here, 3 Bassets and Cooper, the Belgian. When Mitchell
died and we were down to three, i hardly knew what to do with myself. The
house is small, but it seemed so empty. I know that sounds utterly
ridiculous, when we are tripping over Bassets all the time and stepping in
water bowls (and filling them) and running this that or the other into the
Vet for something, andrunning out of dog food or treats or suddenly having a
dogfight underneath the dining room table...plus the amount of waste is
doubled, the number of times the trash is raided is doubled, the counter
cruising is doubled or, if Sally doesn't do that, perhaps the newbie can
teach her. Conley is not 4 months old and is already trying. Nigel ate half
my Panera's Bacon Turkey Bravo sandwich last night, which I had carefully
put as far away from the edge of the table as I could and...he got it. (For
which he nearly was murdered.)
Having one Basset is definitely peaceful. Having two is hilarious. Having
one is lovely. Having two keeps everyone young.
Having one Basset gives you a chance to lavish love on a wonderful girl:
having two means you have twice as much love to give...and get back.

MomPerson to Nigel (Oh,was that YOUR Panera sandwich???) Llewis (You could
share, you know) Conley (whatsit?whatsit?) and Cooper (uh oh.)
