Hi,
We own a basset, a shebee (sheltie/beagle) and a Louisiana 
Leopard/mastiff.  I take them all for walks at the same time and my 
basset does great.  He is the youngest at 3 years old and from day one 
he was going on walks with the other two. (Of course, I had to carry him 
a bit for the first few months).  My previous basset insisted on walking 
with the other dogs his entire life.  My vet has told me that Tucker, my 
basset, is the most fit basset he has seen!
