When she was 12-1/2 years old Clara (ATB) started having strange episodes that resembled hyperventilation. These got increasingly worse until she fainted (first trip to the emergency vetspital). During the 2nd faint, she actually stopped breathing( mouth to nose, followed by a 2nd trip to the emerg.).  We finally figure out her larynx was spasming and getting stuck shut,making it impossible to breathe.  The surgery to correct it, a laryngyl tieback on one side of her vocal chords, is essentially a de-bark.  She had a half bark and always sounded hoarse, but this surgery saved her life.  She lived for another year and a half afterwards.
