Rolph is in vetspital again (can't you tell it's a bank holiday here?).
He has been poorly for three days. Yesterday he seemed much better, so I didn't
take him to the vet, but this morning he was clearly much worse again.
He is not presenting usual blockage symptoms, but there is a lump near his
perotenium. I am waiting for the results of an XRay and trying not to fall apart
because I am at work.
He has also passed worms, even though he is up to date with his worming
treatment.

On today's Daily Drool calendar you'll find our two boys Bonk and Rollins .
Bonky came into my life shortly after I lost da Moose almost four years ago now
(wow, has it been that long!?!). He is completely a "mommy's boy" -- he has to
know where I am at all times.
Rollins came to us almost two years ago now, and was diagnosed with a thyroid
tumor on his very first trip to our vet. Within a week, he had surgery to remove
it, but then it proved malignant, and so off he went to an oncologist for six
chemo treatments. Poor guy had a rough first six months with us.
I'm happy to report that Rollins is now over a year cancer free (knock wood!)
and the two boys are fast friends, even though they are quite opposite in many
ways. Today's photo is an example - Rollins goes over on his back for belly rubs
regularly. Bonk almost never does.
When I walked in and saw them lying like this, I immediately thought "Basset Yin
and Yang" and snapped the photo.

The vet has called me. There does not appear to be a blockage, but his gut keeps
filling with air, as though about to bloat. If you rub his tum,
he belches and
the air leaves.
They don't know why this is happening. Nor can they suggest what to do. They are
keeping him for observation.
So, I am asking the huge drool family if anyone has had this happen and can
throw any light on this.
The good news is he must be feeling better as he tried to grab a vet tech's
cereal bar!

It is a sad day in my house today! I lost my 14 year old lab in the
beginning of august and my youngest left for college last week. Last
night my beautiful little Frankie girl went to the bridge. She was
listless all week and I thought she was missing my son. I tried to
take her for a walk and she did not really want to go far. She was
fine until someone walked a blacklab past my house yesterday just. I
just thought she had a stomach bug because she sometimes did. We were
watching tv when I left her to eat dinner. I heard her walking
arround. My husband went to check on her and she was gone. So quickly
and I was only away from her for a few minutes. She was my the
calendar girl on the 29th. In one month I have lost both my friends. I
guess my lab needed her more than I did. She was everything to me. I
waited so long for her and although I had her for 7 great years, it
was not enough. God speed my princess mommy loves you.
. Ps Wendy greenberg thank you for my secret partner gift I promise to
send you my thank you soon. I had been looking for the right picture
of her to send

Just got off the phone with Dawn. The fire is getting closer, but they are not
under mandatory evacuation as of now.
They are ready to go on a minutes notice. Dawn said it is hard to tell how much
closer it is during the day b/c of all the smoke. In the evening you can judge
the distance better b/c you can see the fire itself.
One of Daphneyland's volunteers has opened a FirstGiving page and has also
posted on Craiglist for volunteers in the Tarzana area in case of evacuation.
http://www.firstgiving.com/ActonFire_BassetRescueNetwork
Even if the manage to not have to evacuate they will still need funds for eye
wash, eye drops, and new toys....just to mention a few things off the top of my
head. All the stuffies that were in the yard have to be disposed off, not b/c
of the smoke, but b/c many of them have holes from hot ashes that have fallen on
them. And we all know that the Hounds would just pull out the stuffing and eat
it :)
Here is the link to sign up to volunteer in case of evacuation. This is for the
Tarzana area, about 50 miles south of the ranch.
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/ant/pet/1351578343.html
Dawn has asked me to thank everyone for their concern. And please keep the
drool and prayers coming!!

I am contacting the news stations about Daphneyland.? My roadblock is getting a
news?human on the line and then them telling me to send an email with the
details.? So that is what I am doing.??? Maybe if we flood them with emails they
will get the message.? I would love to be able to call all of them but my worry
is tying up all the phone lines in an area that has been declared a state of
emergency.? Don't forget the radio stations which is what I am working on.?
Maybe we could start a list of who we contacted with email and phone numbers and
just keep it going and adding to it as each member gets a new contact? ?(Line a
chain letter.)? Then if we all email them maybe we can get Daphneyland some much
need help.
We are drooling and stomping to put out all the flames?and praying for a
downpour of rain (without thun
der and lighting).???Daphneyland and everyone that
is in the path of this fiery monster is in our prayers.

I am, for the most part, a lurker but felt a need to convey my thoughts,
prayers, and Samantha's drool for the well being of Daphneyland and the
precious houndies and amazing people there as well as the safety and well
being of all affected by these horrible wild fires. I saw it on the news
this morning and it truly was frightening. RAINRAINRAINRAIN stomping and
NOEVACNOEVACNOEVAC thoughts and prayers to all. Also, healing drool to all
else in need from here in northwest central Ohio.

Dawn asked that I thank everyone for their prayers and Drool. Dawn and I
put together a list of items they have an immediate need for. Please check
updates
for additional items as she becomes aware of them being needed.
Right now, the hounds of Daphneyland need the following items, most are
needed because of the dense smoke:
Eyewash (Available at any drugstore or Walmart, Costco, etc.)
BNP Eye Ointment (Available at Walmart) and any type of ophthalmolic eye
salve
Pure aloe vera - (no dyes in it)
Cranberry capsules
L-Glutamine powder
The stuffed toys the hounds play and cuddle with are all saturated with
smoke and will have to be thrown out. Dawn suggested that instead of paying
retail prices for toys, anyone interested in buying toys purchase them from
_www.dog.com_ (http://www.dog.com) or _www.petage.com_
(http://www.petage.com) .
Gift cards for Walmart or Costco would be appreciated as they could be used
for items not on the current list.
If you would like to send anything to Daphneyland, please use the following
address, which is Dawn's parents' home:
BaRNI/Daphneyland
c/o Jim and Cathy Smith
5643 Shirley Avenue
Tarzana, CA 91356
A First Giving page has been started at
_http://www.firstgivhttp://www.firsthttp://www.firsthttp:_
(http://www.firstgiving.com/ActonFire_BassetRescueNetwork) for those who wish
to make a donation. If you prefer to mail a
check, please send it to the above address. Please do not mail cash.
If you have any questions about items that can be used for the Daphneyland
hounds, please contact me off the list.
We'll update you as further information is available. Thank you so very
much for your prayers and Drool and please, keep them flowing.
Marie
